Brian McNeely, DDS

A Commitment To Doing What’s Right

“I will do the right thing and treat you just as I would treat a close family member. I do what is needed and will never put you in a situation where you feel scared or uncomfortable.”

That philosophy guides everything I do as a dentist. My goal is to create an experience where patients feel heard, respected, and completely at ease—knowing their care is always rooted in honesty and compassion.

Finding My Calling In Dentistry

I grew up in the small town of China Grove and originally pursued a career in chemistry. Over time, my desire to help people in a more direct, meaningful way led me to dentistry, where I found my true calling. Since 2014, I’ve been proud to serve families in Concord, Charlotte, and the surrounding communities with personalized, high-quality dental care.

I earned my dental degree from the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry in 2006 and completed a residency in general dentistry at the Fayetteville VA Medical Center. I later practiced as an associate dentist in Wilmington and Raleigh, gaining valuable hands-on experience before founding McNeely & Mallette Family Dental Group.

Comprehensive, Patient-Focused Care

My training in implant, restorative, and cosmetic dentistry allows me to offer a comprehensive range of treatment options, including crowns, bridges, partial and complete dentures, implant-supported prosthetics, and full cosmetic cases. Through extensive advanced training and hands-on experience performing cosmetic and restorative treatments, I am able to seamlessly blend function and aesthetics to achieve results that are both healthy and natural-looking.

I grew up in a military family, which gave me the opportunity to live along the East Coast as well as in South Korea and England. Living in different places and experiencing different cultures has helped me connect easily with people from all walks of life and shaped the way I approach patient care.

One of the things I love most about dentistry is that no two days—or patients—are ever the same. I enjoy caring for patients of all ages and focus on using gentle techniques and modern technology to make each visit as comfortable and efficient as possible.

When I’m not at the office, you’ll usually find me spending time with my wife and our four children—Oliver, and our triplets, August, Sage, and Maxwell. Family means everything to me, and I bring that same level of care, patience, and attention into every patient relationship.

I’m proud to call Huntersville, North Carolina my hometown. I attended Cannon School in Concord and earned my biology degree from UNC Charlotte, where I also had the opportunity to play Division I soccer for the Niners for four years and compete in the NCAA tournament multiple times. Being part of a team shaped my work ethic and reinforced the importance of dedication, discipline, and teamwork.

Advanced Training With A Patient-First Focus

I was honored to be accepted into the inaugural class at the ECU School of Dental Medicine in Greenville, NC. During my training, I gained advanced experience in endodontics, periodontics, and oral surgery while caring for patients throughout Greenville and the surrounding communities. I continued my education at ECU through an AEGD program, further expanding my skills across multiple dental specialties.

After practicing in Virginia Beach while my husband served in the Navy, I was excited to return to the Lake Norman area to continue my dental career and serve the community I love.

I completed both my undergraduate studies and dental degree at West Virginia University before moving to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where I practiced in a private dental office. My passion for healthcare began at a young age, and dentistry stood out because it allows me to blend analytical thinking with creativity. I love that my work is both hands-on and innovative, while also allowing me to directly impact my patients’ lives.

I’m originally from Hermitage, Pennsylvania, and I earned my education at both State University and West Virginia University, where I completed my DDS degree. I was drawn to dentistry because it allows me to truly make a difference in people’s lives while blending art, science, and hands-on skill.

Leighton Fain, DMD

A Diverse Path To Dentistry

I like to say I’m Texas-born and Kansas-raised. I earned my BA from Miami University in Ohio before completing my DMD at the University of Kentucky in 2014. After dental school, I moved to Charlotte to complete a General Practice Residency at Carolinas Medical Center (now Atrium), where I focused on treating medically compromised patients and individuals with head and neck cancer. Following my residency, I transitioned into private practice, where I continue to care for patients today.

Continuous Growth & Comprehensive Care

One of my favorite aspects of dentistry is seeing my skills improve every single day. I enjoy providing comprehensive dental care by working closely with specialists to create treatment plans that are successful, durable, and tailored to each patient. I stay current in the evolving field of dentistry through study clubs, seminars, and hands-on workshops, ensuring my patients benefit from modern, evidence-based care.

Committed To Public Health

Public health dentistry is a true passion of mine. I believe it’s a responsibility of healthcare providers to serve all communities, and I’m proud to volunteer monthly at Agape Dental Ministry, where I’ve provided free dental care to qualifying patients since 2022.

Life Outside The Office

When I’m not practicing dentistry, I enjoy baking, cooking, attending group fitness classes, and trying new restaurants with friends.

I’m a Charlotte native, which I know makes me a bit of a unicorn, and I’m proud to serve the community that raised me. Building relationships with patients in my hometown makes my work especially meaningful.

I chose dentistry because it beautifully combines healthcare and creativity. I’ve always loved artistic outlets, and dentistry allows me to use that creative side while forming meaningful connections and helping patients feel more confident in their smiles. The most rewarding part of my job is being part of that journey and making a positive difference in how people feel about themselves.

Patients often describe me as having a calming presence, a personable approach, and a caring nature. My goal is to help patients feel at ease from the moment they sit in the chair, knowing they’re in compassionate and capable hands.

Outside of dentistry, I enjoy spending time with my family and staying busy as a new mom to my one-year-old son. I also have a puppy named Nola—named for my love of New Orleans. A fun fact about me is that my brother is also a dentist; he’s an oral surgeon.

I grew up in Haysi, Virginia, and attended college at Virginia Tech before moving to Richmond to earn my DDS degree from the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry. I’ve always known I wanted to work in healthcare because of my strong desire to help others.

My inspiration to pursue dentistry came from my own family dentist, who made each visit feel less like an appointment and more like a chance to catch up with friends. That experience showed me how powerful compassionate care and education can be in helping patients feel proud of their smiles.

Bringing Comfort to the Chair: Meet ATKINS, Our Facility Dog

At McNeely & Mallette Family Dental Group, we know that for many patients, both kids and adults, just walking through the door can be the hardest part. Dental anxiety is incredibly common, affecting an estimated 30 to 40 million Americans. That’s why we’re committed to creating a calm, supportive environment that helps every patient feel at ease. One of the most impactful ways we’re doing that? A four-legged teammate named ATKINS.

ATKINS is a professionally trained Facility Dog, part of a groundbreaking partnership with the nonprofit paws4people® foundation. She was raised from puppyhood to provide Animal Assisted Intervention (AAI), a proven method for reducing stress and easing anxiety in clinical settings. Research shows AAI can lower heart rate, reduce blood pressure, and help patients feel more relaxed and ATKINS does exactly that.

Whether you’re a first-time visitor, a child nervous about getting in the chair, or an adult who’s put off care for years, ATKINS is here to help. She’s known to walk pediatric patients back to their appointments, hop up in the chair to model a dental exam, and even deliver toothbrushes from her special basket. Her gentle, joyful presence makes each visit a little easier and a lot more fun.

ATKINS supports patients during hygiene appointments, new-patient exams, and restorative care. For some, her presence is what finally makes dental treatment possible. For others, it’s a sweet and unexpected bonus. Either way, the smiles she helps create go far beyond the dental kind.

She lives with her primary handler, Barbara Kucera, one of our talented hygienists, and spends evenings and weekends as a playful pup with the Kucera family. In the office, she follows strict hygiene guidelines and always stays a safe distance from sterile instruments and clinical areas.

Want to meet ATKINS? Let our team know when you’re scheduling your appointment, and we’ll do our best to coordinate a time when she’s on duty. While we can’t guarantee she’ll be with every patient for the full appointment, we prioritize her time where she’s most needed.
